Handyman work requires less resources than contracting because you only need your own tools. However, you must be able to manage your own workload and schedule, while contractors typically rely on subcontractors to do most of the work.

What qualifications are necessary to be a handyman

Being a handyman requires patience. Also, experience with working with electrical systems, carpentry skills and plumbing knowledge is essential.

How to Replace a Broken Window?

One of the most popular home improvement projects is to replace broken windows. The job involves repairing the damage done to the glass in your home. Repairs should take about 30 minutes in this situation. You could end up causing more damage to your house if you don't know the best way to replace a damaged pane. This article provides tips for how to replace broken windows.

First, remove the old glass from its frame

To take out the old glass, first remove the screws that hold it in place. The lock located at the top middle of the bottom portion of the window frame must be undone. Next, raise the window so it isn't attached to the sillplate (the metal strip below the floor). The last step is to gently loosen all remaining screws with a tool. After the panes have been removed from the window, clean them well.

Next step: Clean the glass

You can wipe any dirt off the glass surface with a towel or a dry cloth. If debris is stuck under the glass, try cleaning it with a spray bottle filled with water and rubbing alcohol.

Third step: Reinstall the new glass

Reattach the window panels to the frames. Begin by pressing down on the outermost pane's lower edge with a screwdriver. Gently push back the pane into place in the opening. After moving to the next one, push it firmly against your previous one before you reattach it. Continue to insert the panes until you have assembled the whole window. Use a silicone caulk gun to seal the space where the panes meet.

Fourth step: Repair any damage.

When installing the new glass, inspect the area around the hole to determine whether any additional repairs are needed. Inspect the area around the window for cracks near the corners. If so, add two small pieces wood to each side. These wooden blocks will be strong and can also act as spacers, keeping the glass in its place during expansion and contract of the weatherproofing.

Fifth step: Seal the repaired area

After the glass is replaced, apply silicone caulking to all edges of your window frame. This will create a seal between the glass frame and the wallboard. Silicone caulking can be purchased at hardware stores and online. Choose a color that matches your walls.

Let the caulking set overnight. Do not disturb the caulking until it has hardened completely. You could crack the caulking if you wait too long.
