FAQ

What are the top handyman repairs you can do?

Handymen commonly repair damaged roofs, windows, doors, gutters, siding, decks, fences, sheds, hot water heaters, air conditioning units, and electrical systems. Handymen can help with home improvement and building projects that are not feasible for DIY homeowners.

A handyman can install new fixtures and appliances.

These projects are best left to the professionals. Be sure to identify the appliance or fixture that will be installed before you start.

How often should I call a handyman?

It depends on your project. For instance, if you need a simple fix-it job done, such as installing a light bulb, then you might only need to call one handyman per week. But, if you have a lot to remodel, you may need multiple handymen.

Which is simpler: Contracting or being a handyman.

Because you only need tools and yourself, being a handyman is more time-consuming than contracting. However, you must be able to manage your own workload and schedule, while contractors typically rely on subcontractors to do most of the work.

Where do handymen come from?

There are thousands and thousands of handymen throughout the U.S. But almost none of them started their career as contractors. The majority of handymen started their careers as tradesmen and learned how to complete apprenticeships. Because of this, many have great skills and vast knowledge that can be a huge asset to any company.

When is the right moment to hire a handyman

There's no "right" moment to hire a handyman. All you need is to get going as soon and as quickly as possible. You could save some money by waiting until after holidays. However, you can also call various handymen by picking up the phone.

Why hire a handyman when I can do it myself?

Hiring a handyman will save you both time and cash. It saves time and saves money. Plus, when you hire a handyman, he or she has all the necessary equipment and supplies needed to get the job done right.

How to replace a broken window

Replacing broken windows is one of the most common home improvement tasks. The task consists of repairing damage caused to the glass inside your house. This repair will take only 30 minutes. The problem is that you might end up with further damage to your home if the glass pane breaks. This article contains some tips to help you replace a damaged window.

First, remove the old glass from its frame

To remove the old windowpane, you will first need to take out the screws that held it in place. Next, take out the lock at top center of the window frame's bottom section. Next, lift the window slightly up so that it is no longer attached the sill plate (the steel bar at the floor). The last step is to gently loosen all remaining screws with a tool. After the panes have been removed from the window, clean them well.

Step 2: Clean the new glasses

To remove dirt and grime from the glass' surface, use a paper towel or dry cloth. You can clean the glass with a spray bottle containing water and rubbing alcohol if there is any debris underneath.

Third Step: Reinstall new glass

Reattach the window panes into the frames. Start by pushing down on the lower edge of the outermost pane with the tip of a screwdriver. Gently push the pane into the opening of the frame. After moving to the next one, push it firmly against your previous one before you reattach it. Continue inserting panes until all windows are assembled. To seal the area where the panes meet, use a silicone caulk gun.

Fourth step: Repair any damage.

To determine if additional repairs are necessary, inspect the area surrounding the hole before installing the glass. Install two pieces of small wood on each side of any hole if the break was near the corner. These wooden blocks will add strength to the window while also acting as spacers to keep the glass in place during the expansion and contraction of the weatherproofing material.

Fourth step: Sealing the area

Apply silicone caulking around the edges of the frame after the glass has been replaced. This will create a good seal between the glass and the surrounding wallboard. You can buy silicone caulking online or at hardware shops. Choose a color that matches your walls.

Let the caulking dry overnight. After the caulking has dried completely, do not disturb it. If you don't wait long enough, you could cause the caulking to crack when you remove it.
